Dr. Denice Grant

Dr. Denice Grant was born in Brazil, and began her musical studies at the age of four. In 1973 her family moved to Portugal, and she had the opportunity to study at the Lisbon National Conservatory. In 1976 her family moved to Toronto, and there, she completed all the theory and piano requirements at the Toronto Conservatory of Music.

She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Piano performance at Walla Walla College, where she studied piano with Leonard Richter and voice with Dr. Marianne Scriven. She received a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University under pianist Donald Walker, and recently received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington, where she studied with Craig Shepard.

She has worked with Pacific Northwest Ballet and Houston Ballet as an accompanist and performer. She has appeared as solo pianist with the Rainier Symphony, the Port Angeles Symphony, the Seattle Philharmonic, and the Skagit Symphony. She has worked with the Bellevue Chamber Chorus, The Northwest Girl Choir, The Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra, The Seattle Suzuki Institute, and The Seattle Choral Company, with whom she recorded Carmina Burana in 1999. She is also active in Chamber Music, and her latest appearance was at the Bellingham Music Festival with the extremely talented violinist Roman Yearian. She has also worked with the Seattle Opera, the Seattle Symphony Chorus, and the Intiman Theater. She presently teaches under various organizations in the greater Vancouver area. Besides these professional pursuits, she has over 25 years of experience in teaching piano and voice.
