Piano Instructor

Abigail Takenaka

Born in British Columbia, Canada, Abigail Takenaka discovered her love for music through performing and touring with the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra on violin, viola, and piano. She eventually began to focus more seriously on piano, and in 2014 performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Fraser Valley Symphony. An experienced teacher, collaborator, and performer, she completed her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the Universities of Victoria and Ottawa under the tutelage of pianists Michelle Mares and David Jalbert. In 2019 she was a finalist at the Canadian Music Competition.

Both her performing skills and her teaching style have been shaped over the years by the musicians she has been coached by, including Betty Suderman, André Laplante, Stephan Sylvestre, and Jean Saulnier. With 12 years of teaching experience, she believes it is important to help her students establish a rich musical background and a reliable technical foundation. She endeavours to support each student based on their individual learning styles and aspirations.
